Bios

Luis Angel Medina Rodriguez was born in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, and began his formal studies in guitar, music theory and ear training at the age of fourteen. He moved to Canada at the age of 17. Luis is actively involved in the guitar community.

 

Currently, he is concluding his studies in the Bachelor of Music program at UBC majoring in guitar performance. He is passionate about teaching and performing.

Luis Angel Medina Rodriguez was born in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, and began his formal studies in music theory and ear training at the age of fourteen. He attended the atelier of the University of Guadalajara where he found his love for music.  At the age of fifteen, he enrolled in the Music Diploma at the University of Guadalajara. Luis aspires to be a great performer and orchestral conductor.

 

Currently, he continues his studies in the Bachelor of Music program at UBC.  Also, he is currently learning conducting, and volunteering at A Little Music Night Orchestra as lead percussionist. Luis is passionate about teaching and aims to inspire others by sharing his love for music and the benefits of music in life.

Luis Angel Medina Rodriguez was born in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, and began his formal studies in guitar, music theory and ear training at the age of fourteen. At the age of fifteen, he enrolled in the Music Diploma at the University of Guadalajara. He moved to Canada at the age of 17 and since, Luis has been a very active component to the guitar community in Vancouver. He finished the Diploma in Music at Capilano University where he studied guitar under Stephen Boswell. While at Capilano, Luis won the yearly interdisciplinary performance competition for the two years he was there. He was asked to perform at TEDx held at Capilano University. Currently, he is concluding his studies in the Bachelor of Music program at UBC majoring in guitar performance under the guidance of acclaimed guitarist Dr. Daniel Bolshoy.

 

Luis is also faculty of the Kaslo Guitar Festival as Ensemble Director. He is heavily involved with the Vancouver Classical Guitar Society organizing events and directing the guitar ensemble. Outside of the guitar world, Luis is involved with at A Little Music Night Orchestra as lead percussionist where he has led rehearsals and conducted at concerts. Luis is passionate about teaching and aims to inspire others by sharing his love for music and the benefits of music in life.

 

Luis has taught at various schools in the Lower Mainland working with all ages and different guitar styles since he moved to Vancouver. For inquiries on lessons or performances please go to the Contact section.
